About active birth & pregnacy yoga
Active Birth
All women are born with the ability to give birth. Her pregnancy and birth will happen automatically after conception and will develop by automatic responses and hormonal changes. Women therefore do not have to 'learn' to give birth as they already have this knowledge. Labouring naturally when upright will reduce the pain of contractions as the baby presses on the soft pelvic floor muscles. Active birth classes help mums to be confident to move freely in a vertical position during labour.
Yoga
During pregnancy, exercise is essential to ensure healthy blood flow and generally maintain health and well-being. Yoga is an ideal form of exercise during pregnancy as it is highly adaptable to meet the needs of the changing body. It will act as an energy boost, and is calming when anxious or over-active. Yoga can help to bring a calm strength and inner balance to help you enjoy pregnancy as well as to prepare you for birth. As your baby grows, yoga can be used to strengthen and tone the muscles associated with birth, while helping you relax and enjoy all stages of pregnancy. Doing yoga will help you accept whatever happens during the birth process and regular practice provides the confidence to trust yourself and to know how to relieve tension. It is suitable for all women as long as it is practiced safely. In my classes I like to include classic postures and gentle stretching but also stress the importance of breathing and relaxation. Most mum’s who have participated in the classes have said how much better they sleep afterwards and that the time on their mats helps them connect with their babies.
Classes are offered on a one-to-one basis
or in groups.
